Maryse Labriet

working as environment/energy consultant and researcher for more than 15 years, has contributed to development and application of integrated energy models for energy and climate policy analysis at country, regional and global levels. She has also developed a comprehensive knowledge of fossil and renewable energy resources, climate mitigation, clean development mechanisms, sustainable transportation policies, in industrialized and developing countries. She is an engineer (France, 1991) and holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences (Canada, 2004). She is now leading ENERIS Environment Energy Consultants, based in Spain.



GianCarlo TOSATO

is a senior energy technology systems analyst. He has worked for thirty years now in energy modelling in private companies and public organizations, domestically and internationally. Since February 2002 he is project head of the IEA Implementing Agreement for a Programme of Energy Technology Systems Analysis (ETSAP, in the framework of the International Energy Agency). He participated to the original development of MARKAL at the Kernforschungsanlage Juelich (Germany) and Brookhaven National Laboratory (Long Island, USA) and participated to the successive development steps of the tool and to the more recent development of TIMES. He used, and continues to use, ETSAP tools and methodologies for building global, regional, national and local models for the evaluation of policies in the field of energy security, energy technology research, climate change mitigation and regional environment protection.


graduated in Environmental Engineering in 2001 from the Polytechnic of Turin (Italy) and took a Masters in Industrial Safety and Risk Analysis in 2003. Since 2002 he has been collaborating with the Politecnico di Torino, the Italian Association of Energy Economist (AIEE), the Energy Foundation, Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei, the Italian research centres ENEA (Italian National for the New Technologies, Energy and Environment) and ERSE (ENEA – Research on the Electrical System) on national and international research projects in the field of energy environmental planning and modelling with MARKAL/TIMES. He is a consultant on several EC funded projects (the FP6 “NEEDS” and “RES2020” and FP7 “REACCESS” and REALISEGRID”) and to the International Research Group (IRG, Washington DC) for the development and supply of a Domestic Energy Model for Pakistan (for the Asian Development Bank).

Eng. Gargiulo participates actively in the activities of the Implementing Agreement for a Program of Energy Technology Systems Analysis of the International Energy Agency (IEA-ETSAP): he regularly holds VEDA-TIMES training courses, and is the author of the second version of the VEDA-TIMES Getting Started manual.
